Dear Debby,
I have been working for five years now since I graduated from the University with a Degree in Management. I am one of the youngest assistant managers in the company I work for and this is indeed an achievement. Not many people are able to become assistant managers at my age and I achieved that through hard work.
I am being eyed for a full-fledged managerial position and I see this as a positive development for my work and career. While I enjoy the position and the glory that goes with it, I still feel that I am being trapped into something that I know I will regret for the rest of my life and that is employment.
We have been raised thinking that having a wonderful work and career should be our main goal. However, now that I already have what everyone is dreaming of, I feel that I will be more fulfilled if I am able to establish my own business.
In fact, I am already thinking of leaving my work and career and start my own business. I have been trained to manage a company well and given the right business idea, I know I can make it. A lot of people, including my family, are dissuading me from doing this. What should I do?
Aldrin
